March 26, 2008

VANCOUVER—Wednesday, March 26, 2008—Smartsettle will join in sponsoring the next forum in a global series on online dispute resolution, June 18-19 in Victoria, B.C.

Smartsettle has participated in annual UN sponsored ODR Forums at Geneva, Edinburgh, Melbourne, Cairo and Liverpool and is now preparing for this first Canadian gathering of ODR professionals from around the world.

Keynote speakers at this year’s event will include Vinton Cerf, current Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google and inventor of TCP/IP protocol, the basis for all network traffic on the Internet. Nobel Laureate and President of East Timor, Dr. Jose Ramos Horta is scheduled to speak on Peace and the Internet.

From the ODR 2008 website, “The Forum will consist of two days of plenary sessions and breakout sessions. The Forum brings together the world’s leading practitioners, academics, students, and civil society to discuss the resolution of disputes using online technologies. These disputes may range from B2C (business to consumer) to the prevention of human rights violations in conflict regions, to reconciliation of opposing groups in armed conflict, to disputes over intellectual property on the Internet. It also brings together the leading technology developers who design conflict resolution platforms for use in legal, commercial, or insurance related disputes…”

As an early pioneer in ODR technologies, Smartsettle is based on algorithms developed by Inventor/Founder Ernest Thiessen, PEng, PhD, whose work has been endorsed by leading experts in negotiation and dispute resolution. The company’s flagship product, Smartsettle Infinity, is the world’s only secure eNegotiation system using patented algorithms to achieve fair and efficient solutions for an unlimited number of parties and an unlimited number of issues, remotely from any location. The forum will highlight a new edition called Smartsettle One, which is a simplified edition optimized for single-issue cases.

Smartsettle encourages all interested professionals and academics alike to attend the forum this Summer and see first-hand how ODR technologies will reshape regional and international policies, negotiations and disputes into the future.

Smartsettle is a product of iCan Systems Inc. in Vancouver, BC.
